🐾 Drool at the Pool Makes a Splash in Clarksburg

The final day of summer at Splash Zone went to the dogs—literally—as over 110 pups and more than 200 of their human companions turned out for the first-ever Drool at the Pool, a dog swim fundraiser hosted by City Parks of Clarksburg and the United Way of Harrison and Doddridge Counties.

Held on Sunday, August 17, the event transformed the city’s beloved water park into a canine paradise before the pool was drained for the season. From 1:00 to 4:00 PM, dogs of all shapes and sizes splashed, paddled, and played while their humans cheered them on from the sidelines—or waded in to lend a hand.

Volunteer lifeguards from the Salem University Swim Team helped keep things safe and smooth, while laughter, wagging tails, and the occasional wet shake filled the air.

“This is one of those fun, community-minded events our parks team has always wanted to bring to Clarksburg,” said Doug Comer, Superintendent of City Parks of Clarksburg. “We were thrilled to see so many happy dogs and smiling faces enjoying the last day of the pool together.”

The event raised funds to support United Way programs that serve families and individuals across Harrison and Doddridge Counties. Admission was $10 per dog, with additional human guests welcomed for a $5 donation.

“Drool at the Pool is not only a celebration of our furry friends—it’s a fun, family-friendly event that reflects the spirit of giving and togetherness our organization stands for,” said Martin Howe, Executive Director of United Way of Harrison and Doddridge Counties.

With strong turnout and enthusiastic support from the community, organizers are already considering making Drool at the Pool an annual tradition. If the tail wags and happy barks were any indication, Clarksburg’s dogs are all in.
